UP 1989, the Rio Grande Heritage unit, leads Amtrak train 6 through Galesburg, IL. Another one of Amtrak’s wonderful GE P42 pieces of junk failed and this beauty was called to the rescue. When will Amtrak…..and every other railroad for that matter……get a clue and realize that these GE motors just dont make the cut? Anyway, enjoy the video. Its certainly one for the books.

Question by Kaity: Totally fictional Laura Ingalls derivitive books?
I swear when I was a kid I read a series of totally fictional books about life in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s town. They took place after Rose was grown, and mostly detailed the lives of the widower reverend’s three kids Larry, Terry and Sherry, and their friend Maurice. There was one in particular about Chinese immigrants coming in to work on the railroad that I really remember. What were these books called?

HORN HORN HORN!!!!
p42’s suck! why can’t amtrak keep EMD’s like the f40?
yeah now emd will be even more reliable because if im not mistaken i overheard caterpillar took emd over so now they are putting cat engines in them god damn, what else could you ask for
P42DC=Punk42DumbCrack’ GE=GeneralyExploding = EMD Rules GE Sucks. How About Phase V F40PH’s tier 2 emmisions Thats Better than PUnk42’s
Why would anyone do a thumbs down on this fantastic video? It’s totally awesome!!!
Cool
@fnm9908 the P42’s are crap always having problems the F40 never had so many problems amtrak employees loved the F40 for the loco the seats sucked in it but that was really the only problem. the MP36 and MP40 are not that good better than GE but worse than EMD.
Nice catch. Great camera work, nice smooth zoom and pans. SD70ACe is always nice to listen to, even better to see it in Heritage paint. 5*
That K5LLA sounds like it could use a better tunning, but hey, I’d take it! Gotta love how a SD70ACe heritage unit manages to lead Amtrak 6.
The 1996 was in the shop tonight for an AI
Nice!
Hey! don’t talk about my p42’s like that they can be reliable. No man im joking i like em both the rio grande is a very beautiful locomotive
Hey, no biggie man…just glad we got to see it.
Great video! Sorry I got in, I was the one in the blue shirt.
talk about lucky. a UP heritage unit on the BNSF leading an amtrak train.
great video awsome sounds! 5/5
i like the p42’s but they keep on failing. It happened to me on the sunset limited it’s on my channel. Amtrak needs to get them fix or get a high speed rail otherwise that i like ge but i hate how the locomotives don’t work
i was agreeing with you, or at least i meant it like that
The fact that you said the GE motors wont be functioning in 50 years only further reinforces what i said earlier about EMD making a higher quality product. These days you only get what you pay for and this is a perfect example. As far as the fuel goes, why is it when i take a coal train to chicago with a GE and an EMD they both use the same amount of fuel? I seriously doubt the amount of fuel used between the 2 is that much difference that it would make a big difference in how many they buy.
no, the real reason GE is more popular is this whole “eco-friendly” stuff, and the fact all anyone gives a rat’s ass about is saving as much as possible. i seriously doubt GE’s locomotives are going to be running as well as they are now in 50 years, in comparison to the EMD SD9’s, which are 55 year old locos and are still going strong in yard duties, or ALCO’s that still work perfectly fine seeing ALCO went out of business in the late 60s
Ill tell you why they buy GEs…because they are cheaper. Where this stuff is made has no bearing on why I like it more or why its better or worse. 99% of the stuff we buy everyday is made in other countries…its not something I agree with but thats the road this country is going down. Look, I work for the railroad and I operate both GE and EMD locomotives and Ill tell you that EMD makes a higher quality product. They dont crap out or burn up like the GEs…youre the only one that has a problem
one thing,if EMD’s are better, how can all of you explain why railroads keep buying GE’s,if the old F40’s were so good why amtrak made them cabbage cars, its like who’s better chevy or ford.all of you should be happy that whathever is moving freight or people,is made here in the states if you dont like the genesis locos,go to the northeast and film the imported electrics, and the canadian bombardiers that might make you all happy or watch the MP36 motors, theyre not GE,but they re not EMDeither
I also agree. Hopefully Amtrak’s and other RR’s future orders will be for EMD units. 5***** and favorite.
No doubt.
TOTALLY AGREE with the intro title statement!
Bring back the Amtrak EMD road units, trash the P-42’s! My Amtrak engineer friend told me they were junk, that should say something about them!
5*****’s and Great Catch!
