If you are a fan of G scale model trains, the LGB model train display at Living Desert in Palm Springs is a must-see attraction. Veronica Hill of California Travel Tips tours one of the best examples of model train layouts in California. This adorable train set features more than 3000 feet of track and the world’s largest G-scale wooden trestle. You’ll be charmed as seven unique trains chug by old mining towns, below Mount Rushmore and past the historic Wigwam Motel. One of my favorite parts of track follows the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams Depot to the Grand Canyon South Rim, where passengers are dropped off at the historic El Tovar hotel. Nearby, above the rushing Colorado River, you’ll find a cluster of Indian Cliff Dwellings and Navajo hogans. Next time you’re in Southern California, don’t miss this fun model train exhibit. It’s sure to captivate the entire family. LGB Model Train Exhibit The Living Desert 47-900 Portola Avenue, Palm Desert, CA 92260 760-346-5694 www.livingdesert.org

Question by Kayla: What is the best way to strip paint off of a brass HO scale model train locomotive?
I recently aqcuired some brass HO scale engines. I have never had brass, and the paint schemes that the previous owner had do not match my era. How do I strip the paint effectively without obviously damaging anything? Thanks!
Now, is there anything that I can use to dip the shells with? There are alot of small detail pieces, and rubbing them is not going to work as the small parts will most likely break or bend. I do not know what kind of paint it is either. I would think that there has got to be something that I can use just to dip the shells??

Answer by Steven D
Do you have any idea what type of paint it is? I’ve used nail polish remover to remove factory paint from plastic shells but, you have to work fast because it attacks the plastic. Some recommend using transmission fluid. Brass engines are a different animal. I wish I could afford them.

  3. hey can anyone tell me how close that is to 1:18 scale, or how a 80’s g.i. joe would look standing next to one. because i collect the new style joes, and plan on making a gigantic dio, and would like to add a train in there as well. i just don’t know train scales, and i’m not familiar with model trains. any help would be appreciated thanks.
